Sixth Form
The Kings Mill Student Centre caters for students aged 16 to 19 in their further education.
Students arrive on transport from 8.45am and begin the day with a choice of activity including news, board games, reading and research on the internet.
Twice a week the students split into ability groups for functional skills lessons all morning. On other days we go to college, swimming at the leisure centre, run the community coffee shop, have PE lessons or do drama. We all meet together at break time in the common room and take it in turns to prepare fruit, toast and drinks for the rest of the students to share.
Transport arrives to collects students at 3pm.
As the student centre is based at Driffield School & Sixth form we are able to use facilities such as the science labs, library and all weather pitch. There is also the possibility of some students attending lessons such as art GCSE at Driffield School & Sixth form
In addition to our weekly college trips we are out and about on a variety of other trips throughout the term. This allows us to complete travel training on foot, by bus and by train as well as to access a wide range of educational activities in the community. Previous trips include Rock Up in Hull, Hornsea Garden centre, Pocklington Buddhist centre and Christmas shopping. We are also involved in the life of the main school with attendance at events such as Harvest Festival, Christmas concert as well as taking part in sporting events.
16-19 Bursary Funding
At Kings Mill School we seek to provide 16 - 19 bursaries for students to ensure they have access to continue their education. Young people accessing their sixth form education with us may be eligible for a bursary to help with travel costs depending on household income. Those students eligible for free school meals will continue to receive these in the sixth form.
There are two types of bursary available; discretionary and vulnerable.
The discretionary bursary is means tested and awards based on household income ensuring support goes to those students who are most in need of financial support.
A separate vulnerable bursary is available to students aged 16 over and under 19 who meet the following criteria:
- Student in care or a care leaver
- Student receiving disability living allowance or personal independence payment in their own right in addition to employment support allowance or universal credit in their own right.
