Home School Liaison Officer

Hello, my name is Jayne Duke.  I have been a member of the Kings Mill staff team for over 30 years, in my role as Home School Liaison Officer for the last 14 years and previous to that I was a teaching assistant.

I wear many hats but my role is predominately to support families; to liaise with outside agencies, school senior leaders, residence staff and class teachers.  I have many connections with outside services; these include Speech and Language therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Health professionals, Epilepsy, Complex Care, Learning Disability and Palliative nursing teams, Health visitors, Consultants, Paediatricians and the Social Workers team.

These connections allow me to sometimes make headway with a problem where others have maybe been less successful.  I am able to, on request, set up meetings, arrange visits and phone professionals and Kings Mill staff may request my support to contact families on their behalf.

I am able to help families complete the relevant paperwork for all sorts of claims, for example Disability Living Allowance, Family Fund and Holiday Fund and can sign post to the right services, as required.

As part of my role I am also the wellbeing contact for families and represent them on the schools wellbeing group.

I am able to set my own timetable and this allows me great flexibility of time.  I have a designated phone line to my office and if I am unable to take your call you can leave a message on my answer phone.  I believe I am a great listener and sounding board for any ideas or issues you may have, so please feel free to call me at any time.

We have a praise assembly and coffee morning every Friday; I am always about and available to families if you want to pop in.  Our parent group meet then too and are available to speak with and share their experience with other families.
