Termly Focus - Autumn Term 2020

Posted: Sep 14, 2020 by: charlottedowson on: Owl Termly Focus

Welcome back to school, Owls!
We have three returning students and nine new Owls who have moved up from foxes. Everyone came in full of beans last Tuesday and all the children have made a wonderful start.
In the Autumn term, we have two termly topics. We start this half term with 'All creatures great and small'. After half term, we are moving on to 'Festivals'.
We are going to be learning all sorts about animals who live in different habitats. We will be making huge, collaborative sculptures and collages in art and will be using music and drama to explore the features of different creatures.
Funny stories, poems and non-fiction books about animals will be enjoyed individually and in groups. If your child has a favourite animal book or poem, we can share these with his or her classmates.
We have a trip to the woods in October, and hope to find lots of interesting creatures there. But we will also be going out regularly into the local community - social distancing of course - to develop independence skills off-site.
Whilst the coffee shop is closed on Fridays, we will be cooking on Thursdays in class so that we can all enjoy a class coffee shop treat on Friday mornings.  Celebrations of work and praise assemblies will be held on a Friday too. Look out for stickers and certificates when the children get home.
Until things are more normal, there is no swimming at Driffield pool for our class. Those children who need hydrotherapy will access a session in the small pool to ensure they get the interventions they need. PE days are Fridays and we have booked the rebound room for Friday pm too.
Any concerns or suggestions are welcomed via email or class diaries so that we can work together and make this year a fantastic one for all.
Thank you for all the support you have offered already,
Julie (and the team).
