Termly Focus - Autumn Term 2021

charlottedowson on: Senior 3 Termly Focus

This term, during the ‘All About Me’ topic, Senior 3 will be involved in a variety of investigations linked to their senses. We will be going out into the community to see what we can see, look at different signs and hunt for items to use during our classroom activities. There will be plenty of messy and explorative play throughout the term involving different materials for everyone to touch, smell and even taste. The whole class will also be taking part in group music sessions using the resonance board and items linked to our school ‘Shabang’ songs as well as making our own musical instruments.

During our art sessions we will be using mirrors and photographs to identify ourselves and our friends in preparation for creating self-portraits and pictures of others. We will also use photographs, requested from home, to identify our family members and where possible label who we can see using written words or sign language. We will also make sure to celebrate the different upcoming events such as Bonfire night and Christmas with lots of interactive activities and art work.

Throughout the term Senior 3 will continue with their 1:1 programmes that have been specifically adapted to them, we will continue with stimulus response tasks such as hand washing and toast making to build up their competency and fluency. Throughout the week there will continue to be group activities such as baking, going to the shops, swimming, PE sessions and visiting the rebound room, these will assist in building up social skills and group interactions.

It is certainly going to be a busy term but we are all really looking forward to it.

Senior 3 Termly Focus - Autumn 2019

charlottedowson on: Senior 3 Termly Focus

The Senior 3 Class are very pleased to welcome our two new pupils, Ollie and Scarlett to the class.   They are already settling in very well.
As always in an ABA class the focus of learning this term is on learning essential life skills through a whole variety of real life activities.
The pupils will be busy learning dressing and showering when they do PE and swimming.
Also learning how to behave in town in shops and cafes. Some pupils bring in a shopping list and do some shopping for their Mums.
Baking and cooking are favourite activities too. The older group can now make delicious jacket potatoes and chilli and cook their own lunch on Fridays!
On Wednesday morning the class are going to continue to visit a wide variety of places to keep the pupils tolerant of 'new places'. Also they will be learning to tolerate using the 'facilities' eg hand driers. This is also a great opportunity to enjoy some walking and travel training.
We look forward to another busy term and fun term.
It will be Christmas in no time!

Music Therapy

ahall on: ABA Upper

Once a week Charlie, who is profoundly deaf, has a session with the music therapist. He absolutely loves it. Here he is feeling the vibrations as he moves the bow over the violin strings
